Why Am I Not Gaining Muscle Even Though I Workout?

This question is so common because “working out” can mean a lot of different things.

Walking is working out.
HIIT is working out.
Yoga is working out.
Lifting five-pound dumbbells forever is also, technically, working out.

But muscle gain usually depends on resistance training with enough challenge to trigger adaptation. (ACSM) If your routine is mostly cardio, inconsistent resistance work, or light weights that never progress, muscle growth may stall.

And on the nutrition side, protein still matters — a lot.
