How the FASTer Way Community Is Supporting Cancer Patients with the American Cancer Society

What if your 30-minute workout could change someone else’s life, too?

In this FASTer Way podcast episode, Senior Director of Programming Haven Hennessey sits down with Lindsey Langley-Liboreiro, Senior Executive Director with the American Cancer Society (ACS)—and a proud FASTer Way VIP—to talk about cancer prevention, the Hope Lodge, and how your daily habits inside the FASTer Way app are literally helping patients get the care they need.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Does this really matter beyond me?”—this conversation was made for you.

From Busy Mom to FASTer Way VIP—at a Cancer Lodge

Lindsey first met the FASTer Way team at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge on the Moffitt Cancer Center campus in Tampa Bay. Our team was there to serve breakfast and move with guests, and Lindsey was already doing another workout program at the time.

But as a busy mom, wife, and executive, the idea of effective 30-minute workouts, whole food nutrition, and cancer-prevention-minded lifestyle strategies caught her attention.

She went home, looked us up, joined as a FASTer Way VIP in January…and hasn’t missed a workout since.

Why it works for her:

  • She only has 30 minutes a day—and that fits perfectly into her schedule.
  • She cares deeply about cancer prevention and healthy living.
  • She found a community that backs up what she preaches every day at the American Cancer Society: move your body, eat real food, and take care of yourself now—not later.

This is where the podcast starts: with a real woman, in real life, living the FASTer Way lifestyle while fighting cancer on the front lines through her career.

So…What Does the American Cancer Society Actually Do?

We all recognize the name American Cancer Society. But if you’ve ever thought, “I know they’re important, but what do they really do?”—you’re not alone.

In the episode, Lindsey breaks it down in a way that makes every FASTer Way client sit up a little straighter.

Here’s just a glimpse of what ACS does:

  • Cancer research: Since 1946, ACS has invested over $5.6 billion in cancer research, making it the largest non-government funder of cancer research in the U.S. That includes new drugs, new treatment plans, and the discoveries that shape how we prevent and treat cancer today.

  • Big breakthroughs you now take for granted: ACS was part of the early research connecting tobacco and cancer—a link that has literally saved millions of lives and continues to shape public health.

  • Patient support services: ACS doesn’t just fund labs—they help real people, every single day, through things like:

    • Hope Lodges across the country (including Hope Lodge Tampa): free lodging for patients who must travel for treatment
    • Road To Recovery: volunteer drivers who bring patients to and from life-saving appointments
    • ACS CARES app and cancer.org: resources, support communities, clinical trial information, and education so no one has to navigate a diagnosis alone.

In other words: when someone hears the words “you have cancer,” the American Cancer Society is often quietly in the background making sure they have care, community, and a plan.

The Stat Every FASTer Way Client Needs to Hear

This is the moment in the podcast where you want to hit pause and rewind.

Lindsey shares that:

4 out of 10 cancers can be prevented through lifestyle.
5 out of 10 cancer deaths can be reduced through prevention and early detection.

That means your daily choices—how you eat, move, sleep, and manage stress—aren’t just about looking lean in jeans. They’re about reducing your risk of cancer.

The American Cancer Society points to key pillars of cancer prevention that sound very familiar if you’ve been with the FASTer Way for more than five minutes:

  • Healthy eating and whole food nutrition
  • Regular physical activity
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Getting enough quality sleep
  • Avoiding tobacco and reducing alcohol

Inside the FASTer Way, we’ve built these into your daily rhythm through:

  • whole food, macro-balanced meals
  • strategic strength training and intentional movement
  • intermittent fasting for metabolic health
  • carb cycling aligned with your workouts
  • hydration, sleep awareness, and stress reduction

So when you log your water, your workouts, your whole food meals—it’s not just “checking boxes.” You’re investing in your future self and reducing your risk of disease.

Inside Hope Lodge: Community, Care, and Ringing the Bell

One of the most moving parts of the episode is hearing Lindsey describe Hope Lodge—a place where cancer patients and their caregivers can stay for free while they receive treatment.

The FASTer Way team has been honored to spend time at the Hope Lodge in Tampa, serving meals, leading movement, and simply showing up with encouragement and energy. This year, the team is returning to host a Pilates/stretch and stress-relief session for guests and caregivers.

When you hear Lindsey describe what it means for patients to have somewhere to stay and a community surrounding them, it’s impossible not to feel even more connected to the mission.

How Your Stars Turn Into Support for Cancer Patients

Here’s where YOU come in—in a very real way. Every November, the FASTer Way focuses on generosity, gratitude, and giving back. This year, our Generosity Challenge inside the FASTer Way app is directly tied to our partnership with the American Cancer Society.

Here’s how it works:

  • You track your daily workouts, nutrition and habits in the app.
  • You earn stars for those healthy behaviors
  • When you hit 50 stars, the FASTer Way donates $50 on your behalf to the American Cancer Society

Those stars aren’t just virtual confetti. They help:

  • keep Hope Lodge doors open
  • fund rides to treatment
  • support new research and clinical trials
  • provide resources and community for patients and caregivers

Your consistency inside the FASTer Way app becomes real-world generosity for someone walking through the hardest season of their life.

Powerful Daily Habits That Support Cancer Prevention

Lindsey and Haven also talk about a powerful mindset shift: seeing your health habits as a prescription, not a suggestion.

When a doctor hands you medication, you follow the directions because you know it’s important. What if you viewed:

  • your 30-minute strength workouts
  • your hydration
  • your whole food meals
  • your sleep
  • your walks and NEAT movement

…as a daily prescription for cancer prevention, energy, longevity, and quality of life?

That’s the FASTer Way lifestyle: a science-backed, sustainable way to protect your health long-term while you feel stronger, leaner, and more energized now.
